SKF and CabinAir, an in-cabin air quality specialist, have teamed up to launch an advanced vehicle air-quality system for the automotive aftermarket. The SKF Smart Air Purification System aims to enhance in-cabin air quality for a healthier and safer driving experience for vehicle occupants and is now available SKF U.S.
The system has the ability to remove more than 10 times the amount of pollutants in a vehicle's interior compared with conventional solutions. These particles are trapped before they enter the cabin with the goal of creating a healthier driving experience, according to SKF.
The system uses active particle charging technology and mechanical filtration with the purpose of exceeding conventional methods. Benefits of this system include a healthier ride, eliminating the need to recirculate cabin air, reducing the risk of virus and bacteria transmission between passengers, and preventing fogged windows and CO2 buildup. Additionally, the system includes an air quality monitor integrated with the Nordzone app, allowing users to maintain healthy air levels inside the vehicle and compare interior and outdoor air quality.
"In short, our combination of two technologies provides you with healthy air for your journey," said Daniel Hagström, CEO and co-founder at CabinAir Sweden. "It addresses the critical issue of ultra-fine particles entering the respiratory system during vehicle use."
SKF Air Purification System employs CabinAir's patented two-step technology, capturing ultrafine particles, pollen, dust, unpleasant gases, and odors while deactivating viruses and bacteria. Installation of the system is a one-time process, requiring periodic filter replacements for continued effectiveness.
